Philadelphia City Hall By Night

Fall in love with the City of Brotherly Love outside of our SutureStar workshops, as Pennsylvania’s largest city gives you a history lesson, while having fun at the same time. Come to Philadelphia to learn about NIFA’s workshops as well as the origins of our great country, while tasting a culture unlike anywhere else in the U.S. Still buzzing from the patriotic festivities, July is a perfect time to visit one of the most historic cities in America. Your history teacher will be proud of you.

More than 100 years ago, Philadelphia was the greatest brewing city in the entire Western Hemisphere. Now you can taste a little bit of history and see why Philly still holds a strong reputation for some of the world’s best beer. In the Old City, head up to the 2nd Story Brewing Company, a brewery started by a farmer and her son-in-law, while looking at New Jersey from across the pier. Taste the revolution that Yard’s Brewing initiated, with their unique taste of Philly and its history. Calories are as common to Philly as weird lingo, so indulge in some Philly Cheese Steaks and pizza pies. However, the pressure of deciding which cheese steak to eat may be as intense as suturing up a patient. Philadelphians will ask you which establishment is the best, so choose wisely. Our suggestions are Dalessandro’s Steaks, Max’s Steaks and Pat’s King of Steaks.

If you’re needing to walk it off, Philadelphia does provide plenty of outdoor parks to burn those extra calories. Fairmount Park is home to more than 9,200 acres of rolling hills, walkable trails through shaded, wooded areas, as well as a waterfront. Enjoy anything from horseback riding, environmental centers, deep-woods hiking to outdoor concerts held here, or simply take a seat and people-watch. If you’re feeling extra energetic, take a run up the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and get a glimpse of the city view, just as Rocky Balboa did. If SutureStar workshops have you looking forward to relaxing, escape to Rittenhouse Square, a meditation oasis within the hustle and bustle of the city. Plenty of trees for shade, trails for walking and reflecting pools for contemplating, you’ll be able to regain your energy for the remainder of your stay.

student8-minHave the liberty of strolling in almost any direction from downtown to see any historical attraction, including City Hall, National Constitution Center and Independence Hall, where 56 men gathered to defy the King of England and create the U.S. Constitution. Within a musket’s shot is the Liberty Bell, where you can still hear how the sound of freedom first rang. On top of the experience you’ll gain at the SutureStar workshops, the aftertaste of onions, cheese steaks and stars and stripes will leave a historical imprint of Philadelphia in your memory.
